How to Perform Umrah – Step-by-Step Guidelines
Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage performed in Makkah,
Saudi Arabia, and can generally be undertaken throughout
the year, subject to applicable travel and pilgrimage
regulations. Before departing from Karachi,
pilgrims should understand the essential rituals
of Umrah and prepare themselves spiritually
for their journey.
Entering the State of Ihram
The first step of Umrah is entering the state of
Ihram before crossing the designated
Miqat boundary. Pilgrims make the intention
(Niyyah) to perform Umrah and begin reciting
the Talbiyah. Men wear the prescribed two-piece
Ihram clothing, while women wear modest Islamic
clothing that meets the requirements of Ihram.
Pilgrims travelling from Karachi should confirm
their flight route and Miqat arrangements before departure.
Performing Tawaf Around the Holy Kaaba
After arriving at Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah,
pilgrims perform Tawaf by
circumambulating the Holy Kaaba seven times
in an anticlockwise direction, beginning
and ending at the Black Stone's alignment.
During Tawaf, pilgrims may engage in
supplication, remembrance of Allah,
and personal prayers.
Performing Sa'i Between Safa and Marwah
Following Tawaf, pilgrims perform
Sa'i between the hills of Safa and Marwah.
This involves completing seven passages,
beginning at Safa and finishing at Marwah.
The ritual commemorates the devotion
and perseverance of Hajar (AS)
as she searched for water for her son,
Prophet Ismail (AS).
Completing Umrah with Halq or Taqsir
The final ritual of Umrah is
Halq or Taqsir.
Men complete the ritual by shaving
or shortening their hair, while women
shorten a small portion of their hair
according to applicable religious guidance.
After completing this step, pilgrims
exit the state of Ihram, marking
the completion of their Umrah.
